The NHL would be wise to capitalize and embrace the fun from its stars like the NBA does.

As I mentioned on Friday when this all went down, the NHL’s culture tries so hard to suffocate the personality out of its players. Because it’s “how the game is played.”

I don’t think most fans want that “head-down, team-first, hockey Rg3 Cheap Jerseys robot” culture anymore. Look at how many fans from across the league got angry at NBC and supported Subban. Subban is adored because he’s such an infectious personality.

The NHL would be wise to capitalize and embrace the fun from its stars like the NBA does. It’s the only way it will survive.

The bullpen would then give up a run in the seventh, one in the eighth, and then a two-run homer to Randal Grichuk to send the game into extras in the ninth, though, and the Cardinals made the most of it with a Matt Carpenter grand slam to win the game in the 11th. Toronto used six relievers in the first game of a doubleheader, and only one of them managed a scoreless outing.

As Royals Review mentions in the linked article, just four of the 55 teams that began their seasons as poorly as the Royals did even ended up finishing with a winning record. And it’s not like the Royals were favorites heading into the year: The pitching was going to have to come together at the same time their hitters showed off the best versions of themselves, and to this point, they’re halfway to one of those goals with a month of the season behind them.

If you’ve watched every Preds game this postseason, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Outside of a few shifts here and there, the Preds have been the dominant team in all seven games they’ve played so far.

The underlying numbers match what we are seeing on the ice. Through seven games, the Preds have 13 players that are skating at over 50% Corsi-For percentage—in other words, they have 13 skaters that are generating more shot attempts than they allow on average per game.
